In an unprecedented coordinated effort, 15 countries across five continents have simultaneously launched central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot programs. This marks the largest coordinated CBDC initiative in history and signals a significant shift toward digital monetary systems globally.
The participating countries include major economies such as Brazil, India, South Korea, and the United Kingdom, alongside emerging markets in Africa and Southeast Asia. Each pilot program will test different aspects of CBDC implementation, from retail payments to cross-border settlements.
